Newswriting is a ninth-grade elective. All students taking the class are responsible for writing stories, conducting interviews, taking photos, designing pages, proofreading, and using computer programs.

 

Participating students meet daily since this is an elective class. Leadership opportunities are available within the classroom for editors/group leaders and business managers.

 

Newswriting students participate in fundraisers and also contact patrons and advertisers to assist with the financial operations of the class.  When fundraising allows, newspaper students plan field trips to attend journalism conferences, etc. The requirements to take the School Newspaper class are a recommendation from the interested student's English teacher, a signed contract, and a writing sample.
