Speech League

In Speech League students have the opportunity to enhance their public speaking skills and to compete against students from a dozen other junior high and middle schools in seven different speaking events. Students may write and perform their own speeches in Informative or Persuasive Speaking, they may share a favorite story or poem in Prose or Poetry Reading, or they may compete with a speech made up on the spot in Impromptu Speaking.  Students interested in acting can perform an excerpt from a play individually in Drama or with a partner in Duo Drama.  Our Speech team competes in three meets during the months of October and November at schools from Indiana, Somerset, Bedford, Cambria, and Blair counties that are members of the Five Counties Junior High/Middle School Forensics League.   Students from the AAJHS Speech team have gone on to find success at the senior high level competing at state and national tournaments in speech, debate, and mock trial.
